Yesterday was the kickoff the End Detention Week of Action, a week of events around the United States aimed at ending immigrant detention. The detention of undocumented migrants has been on the rise for years; so much so that the American Civil Liberties Union reports that in 2009, more people were in federal prison for immigration related offenses than for weapons, property and violent offenses combined.
