To critics
of Selma marchers
Though wedged in thickest traffic
a man can sicken with aloneness.
He can yearn for human brotherhood
As he has never wanted bread.
But let his step paced
By a brother’s step
And he grows strong
With a spreading strength – that reaches
to the healing of the heart.
A man can hunger for that sound
As he has never needed bread.
“I was hungry…”
And safely,safely, from a distance –
You made a Holy Hour
You lit a lovely candle.
And then you went your way.
