Sisters accompany people in migration at the U.S. southern border

Catholic sisters walk with people in migration all over the world. We accompany people at the Nogales, Arizona / Mexico border by meeeting their basic needs, listening and advocating for their rights. We invite sisters to accompany us in a special month-long program that takes place 4 times a year: March, April, September and October.  This program, Catholic Sisters Walking with Migrants, is sponsored by the Kino Border Initiative and funded through the Hilton foundation.

During this program, sisters live in community in Sonora, Mexico and serve the immediate needs of people arriving at the Kino migrant aid center. They also learn from them, pray with them, share and play with them. Additionally the program includes spiritual reflection, immersion educational activities, and training in effective advocacy and narrative change.

Airfare, transportation, housing and food are provided, as well as a nominal stipend. Requirements include an open heart, adventuresome spirit, physical mobility, and the ability to legally reside in Mexico. This program is highly recommended for sisters who sense a call to serve a thriving mission on the margins, are open to conversion, have some ability to speak Spanish, are discerning border ministry, and/or served in a Latin American community.

We still have space for our October 2024 cohort! For more information, contact Cinthia Hernandez, Volunteer Coordinator for Kino Border Initiative, at volunteer@kinoborderinitiative.org.
