Archbishop Burke's latest gig

Catholic News Service reports: U.S. archbishop named to Congregation for Saints' Causes

VATICAN CITY -- U.S. Archbishop Raymond L. Burke was named a member of the Congregation for Saints' Causes, a Vatican statement said July 24.

Archbishop Burke already serves as prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature, the church's highest tribunal that deals primarily with questions of procedure and jurisdiction of other courts.

He is also a member of the Congregation for Bishops, the body that makes recommendations to the pope on the appointment of bishops throughout the world.

Archbishop Burke, formerly the archbishop of St. Louis, joins two other U.S. members of the saints' congregation: Cardinal J. Francis Stafford, former head of the Apostolic Penitentiary, and Cardinal William F. Levada, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
