Sister-run center trains people in trades, entrepreneurship to improve lives. Students at the Dolores Sopeña Center in Puente Alto, Chile, have increasingly included "the educated poor, having degrees but no work," says Sr. Gabriela Herrera. Run by sisters of the Dolores Sopeña Catechist Institute, the center helps all who come to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
At a "Women in the Church" consultation in Pune, India, 95 Catholic sisters from more than 30 congregations pushed back against discrimination and demanded that the Indian church implement its own gender policy, adopted nine years ago. Participants at the Oct. 4-6 gathering approved a statement that calls for women's 'due place' in church leadership.
