The peace movement, founded March 13, 1945, about six months before the end of World War II, works quietly and largely without much fanfare in France despite its widespread presence in the country.

A historic Vatican II altar that had been dismantled at the former St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Cleveland, is now restored and back in use for community gatherings.

Franciscan Fr. Joseph Nangle, who spent nearly 50 years challenging war, poverty and injustice, died Dec. 14 in Washington.
