Joe Kenny retired after 38 years as a staff writer for the St. Louis Review, newspaper of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. A member of St. James Parish in Liberty, Missouri, he is a substitute teacher, freelance writer and volunteer with the Mizzou Alumni Association and other groups.

Private prison company CoreCivic is planning to reopen a vacant 1,000-bed detention facility as an ICE detention center in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Sisters of Charity are leading community resistance against it.
