Ish Ruiz

Ish Ruiz is an assistant professor of Latinx and queer decolonial theology at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, and holds a doctorate in theology and ethics from the Graduate Theological Union. A native of Puerto Rico and a queer Catholic theologian, his research interests explore the intersection of queer theology, Latinx theology, ecclesiology, sexual ethics and Catholicism. He is the author of LGBTQ+ Educators in Catholic Schools, co-editor of the anthology Cornerstones: Sacred Stories of LGBTQ+ Employees in Catholic Institutions and the author of numerous academic articles on queerness, Latinidad and synodality.

'Not in the near future' is not good enough for LGBTQ+ Catholics

"To say that we are welcome, but our embodied identity and our love are sinful is to shortchange human dignity for institutional comfort," writes Ish Ruiz. "It is to choose fear over courage."
